RS66LD on which bass?

Sign in to disble this ad
All,

I picked up a set of Rotosound RS66LD (45-105) because I want to try them out - I've been reading a lot about them.

Here's my question: Which bass would you recommend me putting these on? I know it's kind of strange question, but I'd like to know if any one of my current setups would give me a better representation of the RS's than another. I initially bought them with the G&L in mind.

Here are my choices (with their current strings):
G&L L2000T (stock SIT)
Peavey T-40 (DR Highbeams)
Peavey Foundation (EB SS Slinkys)
Peavey Fury (GHS Brite Flats)
Epiphone Tbird (EB Hybrid Slinkys)
SX Jazz w/ Audere (EB Nickel Slinkys)

Thanks

EDIT: wow. 95 views without a single response or tip.
I should have entitled this "Show me your RS66LD's..."

I did put the 66's on one of my basses and I like 'em...feel-wise they're kinda rough, but they also have a nice consistency.

roto 66s

hey ACK-
I play roto 66s on a p bass with a maple board, and found them to be warm yet have a really good growly aggressive tone at the same time. Depends on what kind of music you're playing also- as for the tone you're looking for. I play pretty loud with em-

It can be expensive to try strings, only to find they're not for you- but you'll find what you like. I like roto 66s on the bass I play loud, and chromes on the bass I play with the rosewood fretboard- a bit more mellow.

good luck

I vote SX Jazz, especially if you're looking for the Geddy Lee sound.

Thanks for the responses, guys. Very much appreciated.

I put the 66's on the L2k and they sound great - a bit rough on the fingertips at first, but great sound with those super hot MFD pickups and Maple board. (that bass really needed new strings).

I may go out and get a couple more sets and try them on the Fury (P-bass), which has a maple board and the SX Jazz.

I had recently put GHS Brite Flats on the Fury, but they went dead in a matter of weeks.

True that experimenting with strings is a costly venture, but I'm learning a lot from it.
Thanks again!
