Rumblefish String Suggestions??

Sign in to disble this ad
I just became the proud owner of a Reverend Rumblefish 4, J/J pups. It's got the narrowest nut and smallest neck radius of any of my basses but I adapted quickly. (I've never been a jazz bass guy) What a great bass!! At some point, I want to add a P/J version to the collection.

Strings...............

I'm not looking for this sound or that sound. I'm wanting to maximize the Rumblefish sound I'm ASSuming roundwounds of some sort but any and all suggestions considered.

On a side note, does anyone know if the pickups pole pieces are adjustable? With such a small neck radius, it would seem the middles ones should be raised more??

I think Ernie Ball strings really maximize that killer Reverend tone. I've been using Hybrid Slinkies on my blue 'Fish for years. I had been using a custom La Bella set for D-G-C-F tuning on my white 'Fish, and they sounded great, but I just switched 'em out for a set of Power Slinkies (55-75-90-110) and I can already hear the difference. Reverend basses are angry, they cannot be contained, and they demand Slinkies!

Great looking Fish Dave!!

I just put a set of Hybrids on mine last night. The guitar tech at my LMS said the same thing, no other proper choice for the Rev!! I spent about two hours cleaning and detailing the Fish while I had the strings off. I even pulled the pup covers off and washed them !!! Then I spent the rest of the evening setting it all back up again and adjusting the intonation. MAN!! It sounds great now!! I'll take some pics today.

I need a P/J version now.

Awesome!! Glad you like the Slinkies.
I need to really clean and scale my 'Fish, too. Thanks for the reminder.

Huh...never tried the EB strings.
My three fish:
BH5 wearing SIT stainless rounds
5L wearing DA XLT nickel rounds
P/J4 wearing Fener 9050 flats...
