I usually get Ernie Ball Regular Slinky's and have loved the sound but wanted to try something different.

So I bit the bullet yesterday and went out to get some flatwound strings. The only ones in the store we D'Addario Chromes. Just put them on my bass today and after a little bit of fiddling around etc, I'm not sure if I'm sold on them yet.

They look pretty cool and feel velvety on my fingers, well thats until I start sliding, then it kinda grabs my fingers in a way that the Slinky's didn't.

I really hope these grow on me cause strings here are really expensive!!!

Do flats get better with age? And am I just not liking them cause they're new and haven't tried them before???

You will get used to the feel. They do seem grabbier than rounds at first.

It will take a few weeks to break them in. Chromes are pretty bright (for flats) at the very first, but they will mellow a bit. Chromes that are 6 months old or older are quite possibly the best of all worlds: a little thumpy, a little bright, great with a pick.

They are just different from rounds. I never stayed with a set of chromes for 6 months to see if they got better or not. I took mine off after 30 days or so. I thought they were a bit sticky if I played a while, I found putting some fast fret on them helped. I thought the tension was a bit high and they were pretty clanky for flats. Some people love them though. YMMV
