I've been in a quandry lately with strings. I was having trouble aligning tone, tension, gauge, and probably one of the biggest deal breakers, 35" scale. I had a set of SIT Rock Bright nickels on for a few months which hit most of the marks, however I felt they were lacking body in the tone department. Nice and bright though. So I changed today for a set of Power Wound nickel, and have finally hit a home run!
Great tone, great feel, and 18 bucks for a 5 string set!!
I can finally sleep again! |

powerwounds have been my personal favorite for a long time.
i'm going to try out the powersteels next time i order strings tho to see how they go
i was disappointed with the 5 string rockbrights stainless but always happy with powerwounds.
its a shame they dont make super long 5 string for powersteels/rockbrights cos then ill stop using sadowsky extra long and go pure SIT for my 5 string, not just my 4 string

I use SIT Powerwounds because they're bright, warm, and feel fairly smooth plus the price. Really nice tone IMO
On a side note - SIT will assemble "custom gauge" sets for the same price of a standard set at customers request through your local SIT dealer.

Price is great so I figured I would give them a try. Not digging the tension. Man these strings are STIFF! Probably the stiffest strings I have ever put on a bass. Seriously, at first I thought these was something wrong with my tuner!
On the other hand the B string sounds pretty good and focused with the added tension so I might throw the other 4 Sunbeams back on and try this for awhile. I havent been happy with many of the B strings I have tried so might be on to something here. |

I too was once a Sunbeam user, and actually found the higher tension helped to facilitate faster playing ( 16th's ) etc, because my fingers didn't "sink" as much into the string.. |
