S.O.S tuning down

Sign in to disble this ad
hey
iv been playing a few years now, but theres still a lot i don't know, i recentley started tuning down my 4-string epiphone G400 extreme right down to drop B: B, F#,B,E. it sounds fine, bearing in mind the strings are just standard gague strings. but recentley i started noticing grooves in my fretboard, that low B string (formally E) is eating my fretboard alive, i take it this means i need to buy diffrent gague strings to tune down so low? and if so, what gague exactly? i play metal, with only fingering and a few slaps here and there, please help a little newb out

Rotosound has an extra heavy set of RS66's, I want to say something along the lines of 60-80-100-130, but don't quote me on that. Either way, it's their heaviest set, and you should be able to tune it BEAD or BF#BE if your bass can handle it. Just one choice. In terms of the strings eating your fretboard, I really don't have a good explanation for that. Somebody else is definately more qualified to answer the bulk of your question.

Chances are you'll have to shave the grooves in the nut larger to accomodate the larger strings. Best thing you can do is see though. Best of luck!
