I have an Ibanez BTB555 and it came with Elixir Nanowebs installed. I like a meatier sound than rounds, so I figured I'd try some flats. Since it's an active bass with a lot of control I figure I should be able to get cutting tone with them.
Sound: the sound is meaty and pretty well balanced. Right now they're a bit bright, but that's okay with me. I know they'll settle down. I've read that they're balanced, but I think not so much. The B has a more flatwound thumpy sound than the other strings, and the thinner strings are still twangier than the thicker ones. I really like the sound a lot, so far. Nice and meaty.
I'll post some soundclips to my Soundclick page tonight.
Feel: these things feel so good!! I don't really like the raspy feel of rounds, and these things are silky smooth! For flats the tension is very manageable - really similar to rounds. |
