Sadowsky M5-24 players - what strings do you use?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I am still on the fence with this bass, but am leaning to keeping it. I may tweak the set up, string height, etc. a bit and see what happens. I currently have DR Hi Beams (45 - 125) on it. I have always loved these strings, but they feel a little "tighter" (more tension) on this bass than other basses I use them on - especially the G string. It's really stiff and tight. Any suggestions? What do you guys use?

Give a set of Sunbeams a shot.
I have them on my 24/5 and Vintage 5 fretless and they sound great.

I really like the Sadowsky Blue Label SS strings. They sounded amazing on my Sadowsky. If you want more growl, then Ernie Ball Slinky's have a ton of character through the Sad pre.

I used the Blue Label SS (Light). They are working for me too.

Interesting. The thing I miss when I play this bass is the "growl" I get from my other bass with Bartolini jazz pups and preamp. I was thinking Sadowsky strings - obviously - but maybe I'll see if a local place has the EB Slinky's.

Make sure you get the standard "nickel" slinkys, not the SS version. I think you'll enjoy. Cheers.

Sadowsky Blue nickels. Mine has the big singles installed. This bass eats other basses for breakfast.

It's a green pack of Regular Slinky 45-130.

Sorry, I should have put it in Strings in the first place. Although, it does have some merit in Basses. That's why I am not a moderator I guess.

EB Slinky's are on. Initial impression is good. Not as hi-fi or modern as the DR Hi Beams - or so it seems. We'll see after a couple weeks and gigs. Might try the Sadowsky Blues too, just to see.

I've tried all the strings listed above and found that the LaBella Hard Rockin' Steels are the best for my tone quest and my playing style. Although now that you have me thinking about this I am going to have to try the Rotosound RS665LD set because I can not find anyone on TB discussing this set and how the B string ranks...to be continued
