Scale madness! Need medium scale strings for a short-scale bass . . .

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay, folks, I've been having some troulble finding good strings for my new Gretsch Thunderjet. It's a 30.3" scale, but it has a floating tailpiece--so about 1.5" of wound length is wasted between the bridge and the tailpiece. I tried a set of short-scale strings and the silks went past the nut. So I grabbed a set of medium-scale strings and that works fine.

However, it seems like the selection for short-scale strings is poor, and the medium-length selection is even worse! I'm eager to try lots of different strings to see how they interact with this bass, but the selections of styles and gauges is awful. Any recommendations or suggestions?

Peace

I use GHS short scale Boomers on my EB-3 with 30.5" scale. They are nickle round wounds medium guage. They are available in a light guage also, but I have not tried them. Oh yea, the most important thing to you is they are made in a medium scale (32"-33") also.

Hey, thanks for the reply! Unfortunately, GHS medium-scale Boomers are exactly what I have on there right now. They're the only set I've found that fits the bill as of yet . . .

I just strung up my Fender RI mustang with D'Adarrio medium scale chromes, need medium scale because it's a string through body. Very Happy, try juststrings.com.

D'addario mediums and DR shorts should both work.
