| Taper has nothing to do with the abrasivness of the windings, and that's what wears the fingerboard. But, I'm a curmudgeon. I say don't worry about fingerboard wear. That's a lot less important than the sound. Use the strings that sound right, and chalk fingerboard wear up to the cost of doing business.
There are things you can do to alleviate the wear. Nickle is softer than stainless steel, some rounds are more coarse than others, you don't have to press the strings down all that hard, avoid side-to-side vibrato (like one would use on a fretless bass), keep your fingerboard and strings clean, and dress the board occasionally with a super fine hardware sponge (the grey 3M ones are about the same as 0000 steel wool).
If you like the SOUND of half-rounds out there (D'Addario Half-Rounds and GHS Brite Flats are the two that I know are still available) use them. They'll wear the fingerboard, but not as fast as good rounds do. But flats will wear the board too, just not as fast.
It's a musical instrument so use what makes the music sound right.
