In serious need of new strings

Sign in to disble this ad
i'm new to the bass and i need new strings before my band's first gig, which is 9 days from now. I need strings that will sound a bit heavier without having to worry about adjusting my trust rod. My bass is cheap and home made so, i don't want to put too much money into the strings. also, i need to be able to get a decent slap sound from them to. any certain strings you would recommend?

You may need to adjust the truss rod a tiny bit if you change brands or gauges of strings from whats on it. But that should be no problem for most folks. Since little truss rod tweak in summer and winter due to weather changes is common thing. Anyway for a heavier then average sound with bass strings either Rotosound Swing66 or DR Neon are great choice imo. The latter cost a bit more but last at least twice as long as other strings I like and thus their cost for yearly string maintanance is less.

Another good strings choice imo is GHS boomers.

Cheap strings with a heavy sound? I'd go with the D'Addario or Dunlop stainless steel line.

If the strings only need to sound good for about 5 seconds you could also try the Ernie Ball Slinkies. (Just kidding, they last maybe 5 minutes)

+1 for Dunlop. Cheap, heavy duty rounds that get the job done.
