When you think Steve Harris you often think of speed and brightness, which is far from the case with these strings. In my experience they were very mellow and smooth, and very felt a bit slow towards my touch.
They were great for older rock stuff and for blues, but for hard rock/metal, they fall very short. Then again, what else would you expect from flats =P |

I generally change mine somewhere between 3 and 6 years. Day 2 sounding like Jamerson strings? Not possible. |

They are key to getting that Steve Harris sound which, seeing as he is the most influential of metal bassists, obviously must fall very short as a metal sound.
*sarcasm* Just listen to those Iron Maiden CD's for proof. Gawd what a sucky bass sound. /sarcasm
They are stoopidly high tension stings.

Not possible. | Seriously , I got a bass with 8 month old labella flats on (admitedely the 760fl's and not the Jamerson labellas) and they sounded brighter than the rotos after 2 days of use |

After a day or so, they start sounding muddy and dull. I dont like the flatwound sound at all. For the first day, they dont sound like flats.
If you want to keep the Steve sound, be prepared to buy a set every few days. After all... his strings are changed before every show. |

I never said that they sounded bad and I especially didn`t say that 'Arry sounded bad, but they don`t cut it for metal. I can recreate his sound easily with a pair of roundwounds, but I for the life of me couldn`t get them from these roto flats. They played far too slow and the sound was much too mellow. Even after I spent some time lowering the action and tweaking my eq, they just wouldn`t cut it. I did, however, leave them on for my jazz band |

In fact the low end from them is phenominal for metal, imo.

The tone is awesome and I mostly play Iron Maiden so of course I use these strings. It will take a while to break them in but you'll be pleased when you do. |

I'd be interested to hear some recordings of how your broken in strings sound. |
