Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,
Does anyone know of a string manufacturer that makes a short scale 4 string piccolo set? Can you use a long scale set in a pinch? Thanx in advance,
Rick

Short scale piccolo bass? Guitar strings?

You guys are my idols!

I do think you can do the long scale in a pinch.

Maybe try a set of Baritone guitar strings? Baritone guitars are usually around 27"-30" scale I think, so that should work perfectly. Some are made for lower tuning though, like B-B, so just take out the lowest string and then use the next 4 if it's a set like that.

Regular guitar strings work fine on short scale basses.

Are you sure? A standard guitar scale is 25", so if you're trying to tune to the same pitches at 30" (assuming the short scale bass is 30"), that's 5" to tune up. Seems like that would be too much tension for the strings to hold.
