Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, guys!
so well im in the proces of buying a mustang bass and i really want to put some DR extra life blue string that i have on my bass right now on the mustang but as far as i know the dont make them on short scale. So i asked a guy in a music store about that and he told me that i can just cut off the part of the string i dont need but its that right , it wont harm the tuner or something?
thats my question.

That is correct. I use Rotosound Swing Bass 66LE on all my short scales including my Mustang and haven't had any problems.

My Mustang RI sports longscale flats.

A Mustang is string-through-the-body at the bridge so most short-scale strings are too short. You need at least medium-scale strings and as Mongo mentioned, long-scales can work too with a bunch of windings.

The thing to be careful about just cutting the string is that they can unravel, but many people have said they just cut them and put in a hard > 90 degree bend and they do fine. Haven't done that personally, however.
