I see they have medium scale and long. I got a short scale fender mustang. Kinda new to bass and basically lazy to research on my own Any good recommendations for a particular one, esp. for a short scale? tia

Your Mustang is a 'string-through-body' design, so even though it's a short-scale bass, you may need medium-scale strings... I prefer D'Addario strings myself... JustStrings has my two favorites in medium length...

EXL Nickel Coated

Chromes FTW!!!

Robert is correct, if you get D'addarios and string through the body, you will want their medium scale length. Can't go wrong with either the rounds or flats he linked to.

As I recall, Fender has only one short-scale nickel round set, which does fit the 'Stang. They're not bad, just very light gauge (40-95 iirc) and a bit twangy.

awesome thanks for the info. I don't mind light gauge I'll have to check those out. I have a new bag of ernie ball .50-105 which I think are pretty thick? And don't know if these even fit mine. Just wonderin if I should return these or not.

I'm trying to remember ... I recall I had a 50-105 set of strings on my Mustang (when I had one) with no problem. Medium Chromes, I think. But it's possible you'll get some binding at the nut with the D and G strings with 50-105s ... there's only one way to find out.

Alrighty then...

How about Rotosound RS77S Short Scale Jazz Bass Strings?

I've used the long scale set on a P. These are seriously good (and competitively priced) flats.

All four strings sounded balanced (no dead, thudding E string), mmm.., almost like new round-wounds, but with a meatier fundamental, and of course, a smooth touch.

Have a gander at Rotosound's site to see who else uses RS77 flats.

BTW. Be sure to check out the "Please click here for our scale and string length guide" to ensure a good fit for your bass.
