Short Scale string question.
I about to wrap up a 30" scale build, and I noticed something that I think is strange about the short scale string sets on the market.
Shorter scale instruments have less string tension than a longer scale instrument, so it would seem logical that a short scale string set would be a higher gauge. But for some reason most sets are .040 to .100 gauge, and at least in DR's case only available in a round core which is lower tension than hex core strings. This seems like it would cause a pretty floppy E string.
So my question is, why are most short scale sets smaller gauge low tension sets? Also, does any one know of hex core, stainless short scale set with a gauge close to .055-.110?
