short scale strings

I am still new, and have not tried a lot of strings... I am going to replace the strings on my sheapo chinese ZZ Ryder soon, I think... (maybe after the Birdsong gets here... S'posed to get assembled next week.) and want some suggestions.

I know that sometimes shorties lose some definition on the E string... What strings would you suggest to maximize the definition on the low E?

Oh... And with the "tuneomatic" style bridge and string through body, it uses medium scales

Hey Bobby... I'm a big fan of D'Addario... Chromes for flats and XL's for rounds... All three of my shorties wear 'em, (I have to use medium length on the Ovation Typhoon)... JustStrings stocks them in all lengths and they ship fast...

I am using Fender 5250XL nickel plated steel RW shorts in light gauge (40-95) on my Epiphone Allen Woody Rumblekat. They were far too bright when new but after break-in sound very nice and even. I really didn't intend to keep them at first (only short scale strings the local music store had in stock), but now I like them a lot.

I have TI Jazz flats on my Epi Viola... they ain't going nowhere... love the sound.

I have DAddario nickles on the bass in question... PRetty heavy gauge (105 or 110, I think)... would a lighter gauge on the E make a difference?
And Sal, I will also keep the Fenders in mind...

Bobby, FWIW the Allen Woody Rumblekat is voiced towards strong bass response and with hollow chambers under the solid top it has a unique tonal quality. My guess is strings that sound balanced on it might sound quite a bit brighter on other basses.

K... I will have some leeway to experiment cause it will be my backup & "play at the football game" bass when the Birdsong gets here, so I will not have to worry about screwing up the main instrument...
