short scale strings hard to find

i went on the bay and could'nt find hardly any for a short scale 30" , the ones i did find cost a bleddy fortune,
in the uk . cheapest set £25 ,,,eeeek
dunno what that it in us bucks $35 prolly ,
is that normal for ss bass strings ???
