so i just got a fiver, and i'm wanting to get new strings for it. i'm pretty sure the strings on it right now are d'addarios (no silk), which i'm not too fond of (not to mention they probably got the crap slapped out of them at the guitar center..). i was thinking about maybe trying some coated strings (black beauties to be precise), just cuz i've never tried them. so i have a couple of questions:

1. has anyone tried the DR black beauties on a 5 string? whadya think?

2. recommend another type of string?

3. 125 or 130?

btw its an ibanez SR305 (in iron pewter so black strings would look rather sexy...)

I tryed BB's didn't like them. In fact, I don't like any coated string, it sounds like something's missing. D'Addario's are in fact good strings, very consistant! They last
about a month when played daily. I get about two months out of a set.
Try DR FatBeams 45-65-85-105-125 or 130's. Very nice smooth feeling, great sounding strings! They are stainless, but feel smoother than D'Addario Nickels!
