should i go back to rounds

eveing gents just need a bit of advice
i recently did up my squier vm jazz by slapping some dimarzo area J's and a new bridge on it it sounds great apart from the one gripe i have
i usually play flats and have got a kinda harris style "dinga dinga dinga" clank going on all my bass's but rather than getting the traditional "dinga dinga" from bouncing the strings of the frets all i'm getting is an unpleasant "THWACK" instead its quite piercing especially at volume and cutting the treble just makes the bass sound muffled
i did a bit of a scan on youtube and have seen a lot of convincing "dinga dinga" sound from people playing jazz's but i think there using rounds

has anyone got any experiences with rounds on jazz's giving the sound i've mentioned above?
