I thought I'd mention that not only do the Ken Smith have royal purple silk, but they have a silver ball instead of gold (or multi-colored in some cases). Also, the Rock Masters do not have silk at the ball end.

I don't have a picture, but I think I know someone who might.

It's an aqua blue...

I've posted a picture before... I'll try to find it.

They should have silk on both sides?
But yes silver balls...

I will double check myself...

I am positive they only have silk on one end. I just installed a set on a bass a day or two ago. I'll check when I get home from work.

I am totally second guessing myself... I'm away till Monday so can't look either. I have some sets that are literally 15 years old where I am now though haha

Damn it, Jason. I just picked up my bass and sure enough, they have a very small amount of silk at the ball end.

Why do I ever doubt you?

I thought so!

I didn't want to say unless I double checked because I have to always look into things :-)

Burners have red silk by the tuners and blue by the balls fwiw.

sorry if i'm hijacking a bit here, but i figured this was the place to ask this. My 70's PBass came with these strings on it, the original owner can't remember what they are. They have a turquoise silk wrap at the ball and nothing at the tuners, the ball end is also seemingly machined as well. If anyone recognizes them it would be a great help, i loved these strings!

PS the sizes i got with my digital calipers was as follows:
E .095
A .081
D .067
G .050

Hi all! New here.

I have some strings on a bass that was given to me. The ball end windings are red, yet the windings at the tuning pegs are blue. Used lots of different strings over the last 20 years of playing, but have never come across these before. Any ideas?

Sounds like Ken Smith strings.

Thanks, guys!

The strings feel great. Any thoughts on them as I'm not familiar with them?

I'm so outta the loop with all things bass these days.

Just picked up the bass again after a long hiatus. It's been a good 5-6 years since I last played a gig with a bass since switching to vocals. Played a set for a friends Birthday, I took bass and vocal duties for 4 Thin Lizzy numbers! Was great Just getting back into it now as I'm starting a three piece Blues based band, have a guitarist, but looking for a drummer.

This is something that is long overdue with the string merchants! Thanks for giving it a great start.

Here's hoping someone can ID a set for me. I just bought a used Gretsch 5123 that has FLATS with Green silk at BOTH ends. They are a bit rough feeling and sound great. My first guess was Fenders, but i thought they just had the slik on one end. These have multicolred ball ends as well. Thanks.

Adam, its been a couple months since you posted this, I just saw it ... you are testing my memory, but these look like a dirty version of the original Fender flats ... it been 40 years since I had a set of these

I've a set of very stiff flats thatare a bit of work to pluck , but I really dig the sound/tone, but I've no idea whose they are. I am told they have black silk at nut and kelly green at ball end. Any ideas?
