never bothered me. and having 2 red-ish basses that have strings w/ silk it's kinda cool, and completely coincidental, that the Roto flats I have on one and the Boomers on the other both have red silks ... though I did have to shave away some on a B once that didn't fit through the ferrule on my V'r and that was slightly annoying - not nearly enough to not get the strings again had I dug them

I had 77s on my bass a few months ago, and I have a white bass with a tort PG, so it did look cool, but I had some non silk strings, and it looked a lot better. I could take the strings off easier too. Now I have Fender Flats, and they have green silk, so it's pretty ugly.

It's a little annoying when it goes over the fretboard. There's a tiny bit of silk between the nut and first fret on my P bass's E string. That said, it's nothing that's going to keep me up at night. It just is what it is.

I hated the red silk on mine, red really didn't go well with a white/black bass.

I just hate how the silk doesn't stay on properly. It comes undone.

I never even give it a second thought what it looks like .. but then I am an old coot and the little things probably dont bother me as much as those more aesthetically concious ... I like the different color silks to helps with identification ... I have 5 different types of flats on basses currently, and it makes remembering which is which a lot easier ... JMHO

It's not annoying but it would be pleasant if there was just no silk at all. I like seeing all the shine a string has to offer top-to-bottom - it compliments my chrome/shiny obsession.

I don't like silk wraps either. I clean my roundwound strings and use them over and over, and strings with silk look like crap after a few months of that. And I don't clean flats but I take them off and put them on a lot because I can never decide if I want to use flats or rounds, and they get frayed and nasty looking. But I can't find a set of flats I like without silk, so I guess I'm stuck.
