Silvertone/Danelectro U1, 60's Bass, string issues

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Folks,

I have been putting together a 60's, maybe 50's Silvertone/Danelectro Bass. Buying part$ as I find them.

I started stringing it up and %#$!. The bridge "slits" are very small and getting a grip on the ball end seems precarious at best.

The tuners are "skate key" type and the E and A are too fat for the holes!

Anybody have experience with this model. It is long scale by the way and looks like this one.

These are made specifically for the Dano bridge, so that takes care of the grip problem. I'm not sure what scale these are for, though.

You may need to contact La Bella, they could wind you a special long scale set.

I've got 3 of those "Dolphin Nose" basses, one with skate keys, the others have Klusons. They still have the strings that were on them when I got them in the 70s and 80s so I haven't had that issue...yet.
