Are SIT's normally really tight?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got a ESP D6 6 string bass, which sounds nice, the SIT strings that came on it sound pretty good but they're really tight! I usually do a lot of bending but these suckers are like iron rods. I use standard 440 tuning, and normally use Rotosound stainless.

In my experience SIT's are on the tighter side of the tension scale.

You could try some Dunlops, they have a "medium" tension to me.
Dunlop Bass Strings from Bass Strings Online

Sunbeams are round core and are pretty flexible!
Buy DR Sunbeam Electric Bass Strings from Bass Strings Online.

As are Highbeams:

Slinky's are also roundcore and are less tension than SIT, IMO.
Buy Ernie Ball Slinky Nickel Round Wound Electric Bass Strings from Bass Strings Online.

Also, if you order from Jason at bassstringsonline.com be sure to register as a VIP. Fast shipping, great service, and competitive pricing make his business my go to place for strings!

EDIT: I see you're a Rotosound user. He's got those too!

Slinky's are hex core

I found them to be about like SIT and Rotosound tension-wise. I'd call them 'normal' tension like most other hex core strings...Boomers, D'Addario, etc....

I've always found Slinky's to be looser feeling than SIT's. I thought Slinky's had a round core, but they be hex. SIT's have been one of the tighter strings I have used. More so the D'Addario.

The only round core roundwounds I know of are:
DR (Sunbeams, HiBeams, Neon, ExtraLife)
Fodera
TI

Again, that's all *I* know of. There are not many more, if any at all.

I believe Ernie Ball slinky have a tin plated hex core which makes then feel slinkier than other hex cores.

Dean Markley makes a round core string. hehe

Tin is worth about $9.8089 per pound

Gratz on the new bass! I have found that the SITs that came on my LTD bass were also tight, I normally use rotos.

I'll probably try a set of Roto's on it and see how they work, it's been a long time since I've had a fretted 6er. My fretless 6er I don't worry about changeing strings on

Hmm? No one mentioned gauges? Perhaps the SIT set are big gauges and/or a top-heavy set. If you string bend a balanced tension set will really help.

Doesn't even need to be balanced, just lighter gauges.

My calipers tell me it's a .125 B and .105 E, I ordered some medium gauge Rotos for it. On my four string basses I normally use Funkmasters which have a 0.95 E.
