Skull Strings (I'm in love!)

I just put a set of Skull Strings (.045 - .110) in my ICB300EX and WHOA, instantly the best tone EVER! I mean, even the clean DI sound is awesome and even better through amp - everybody else in the band said right away that the tone was a killer. They've never really commented my clean tones, just the effected ones. Well, I had to turn the treble from my head from 9 to 3, they're kind of bright

I've had Ernie Ball, D'Addario, DR (Hi Beam and Black Beauty), Elixir and Warwick strings in that bass but none of those have been even close to the tone I got from the Skulls. And since I had to turn the treble WAY down, I'm sure it'll take quite some time before they've lost too much clarity.

We play metal in drop-Db tuning (Db-Ab-Db-Gb) and the Skulls are pretty perfect for that in terms of tone and tension. In face, that's what they advertise; loud, clear and long-lasting strings for low-tuned metal. Well, I have humbuckers so I'd guess those would be awfully overbright with e.g. J-J pickups but who knows?

I'll never buy another brand strings for my Iceman, I'm totally in love with these beasts. Anybody else tried these?

Here's their web site if somebody wants to take a look: http://www.skullstrings.com

Ah these sound very interesting!!

ive never heard of them!! so are they really high tension strings, kinda ideal for down tuning??

how do they compare tone wise and tension wise to say Rotosound 66 swing bass and DR lowriders??

glad u found the string u wanna use!! im still searching!!

Hi.

I had never heard about this brand but with the help of rather beautiful eyes , I bought a 4XT (065-135) set today, the only BEAD set there was.

A bit more expensive than the regular D'Addarios (EADG), but still less than a eqvivalent 5er set with the G-string I wouldn't have used anyway.

These will be my first coated BG strings, and also the first with an exposed core.

Still trying to choose which bass of mine will recieve these new ones, but when I do, Ill post more comments.

Regards
Sam

Compared to Low Riders I guess they are not as tight but tight enough for metal - after all that's what they're designed for I'm not really sure though since it's been quite a while since I last time had Low Riders on any of my basses... Not a tight as Ernie Balls anyway IMO. They feel a bit rough compared to any other strings but maybe that's what gives the grit into the tone.

Don't know how rare they are in the States, GC seems to be one retailer according to Skull Strings site. But definitely worth trying for any metal player or who just wants nice grit and attack in their tone.
