Slapping with HEAVY strings (LOW end users, help!)

Hey there.
I was playing around with the idea of tuning my bass to GCGCG... though that would mean that in order to get any tension of my liking on the low G, I'd have to use a .145.
I've used a .145 before, tuned to A, but I moved away from it, since the string-mass made the fret-impact overshadow the note, when slapping. Now, like I said, a .145 is pretty much a given for me, but I wonder whether any of you have any tricks up your sleeves - techniquewise - to make a sluggish string (gaugewise) sound better when slapping?
