I have heard it is not as easy as with roundwounds....but tonight my brother popped and slapped the jesus out of my bass which has Fender F-rounds...so that tells me you can Pop with F-rounds. Though he did tell me he has never been a fan of the flat wounds they just dont have that pop, funk, dirty sound to them. ala Graham, Collins, he told me.

I played "little shop of horrors" with flats ... if you know the show, the man-eating plant gets a funky slap line. Sounded great on my rotosounds.

Chuck Rainey did it a lot with Steely Dan ... it can be a very cool sound.

I think roundwounds is easier, because flatwoods tend to slip when I'm plucking.

Slip what? every string you pluck, pop, pick, finger, etc has to "slip" past whatever you hit it with.

Does anyone here like slapping dead strings? The strings on my bass at the moment are dead, doesn't sound too bad. Altough i'll probably be convinced otherwise when i get round to buying a new set.

I dont think its any harder or easier to slap and pop with flats, but i do have to agree with your brother that they dont get that same growl funky sound that rounds get.
