Slide and Flatwounds

I have ordered a set of Sawodosky flatwounds for my 5 string bass. I was thinking of experimenting with playing a slide. I assume playing a slide would not damage the strings, also which would be best to use a glass slide or metal. The last thing I want to do is damage a set of $40 strings. Thanks

A slide won't hurt the strings. You just barely touch it to the strings. Frets are harder on strings than a slide. As for preference, I like glass because it sounds quieter to me. Others like the heaviness of steel.

I use a Bic lighter as a slide. When I do it on my Eastwood hollowbody, with flats, it sounds a whole lot like an upright. Just a touch of palm muting and a mids-free EQ.
