Slinkiness question.

Which is the most malleable string you have used?
TIs? Sunbeams?
Flat, round, I don't care, just tell me which one has been the softest and rubberiest for you!

Thanks

Sunbeams.....for sure. The roundcore makes a big difference I feel.

You know, it's quickly become a showdown between TI and DR Sunbeams...

Have you played these 2 sets? Has anyone? Can you A/B them?

Thanks!

Yeah, I have. I use DR sunbeams on a few different basses.

The TIs out slinky the DRs by a mile, IMHO. TI rounds have quite a bit less tension than Sunbeams. DR SBs are brighter, if that's important to you.

When you say TIs (vs. Sunbeams), do you mean the TI flats or rounds?

Between the TI flat and round, which one is slinkier?

Thanks!

Jazz Rounds (JR344s) is the answer to both questions.

Just checked out TI rounds, and they are quite light gauge...moreso than I would like. The flats are pretty much right on though...

So, TI flats and DR sunbeams, tension comparison would be....

(Thanks for your patience in answering all these questions)

Hey all. Can anyone help me with the last question that was posed in the previous part of this thread?

Thanks...

The TI flats have a bit less tension than the DR Sunbeams.

I wouldn't dismiss the TI rounds so quickly just because the gauges are small. Not great for really digging in... they respond better to a lighter touch for sure, but are very dynamic and musical, and perfectly balanced from string to string - TI has obviously spent some time researching their string gauges. Plus the way they feel to your fingertips is unlike any string I've ever played. They define "slinky" for me.

I have them on a '66 Jazz and love them on that bass. I just ordered a 5 string set for my new Sadowsky fretless - I think they're going to be amazing on that bass too.

Anyway, I like all 3 of those choices for different applications. They're all really nice strings.

Thanks cripula...I really appreciate your responses.
So, in your estimation, the SLINKIEST strings you've ever encountered (in order) are:

1. TI Rounds
2. TI Flats
3. Sunbeams

?

If you're defining slinky as low tension...
yes, pretty much. My DRs are 45-100, but my sadowsky 5 string wears 40-125. Those have a bit less tension again.

Man, this makes me want to try Sunbeams. But I FULLY endorse TI Jazz rounds - I have used those strings and am pretty sure I'm going to put them back on my P-bass. They are so smooth and easy to play, and get great huge sound.
