Small problem with LaBella "deep talkin'" flats

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok, so I got them this morning(5 string set, 128 gauge B), excitedly ran to put them on my Warwick and I hit a snag. The B string won't fit on the winding post! Anybody had this problem before and is there a quick fix? They were pretty expensive and I'd rather not waste them!

How won't t fit?

Is it too wide to fit down in the hole in the tuner? I had an Ibanez 5 string bass, and the TI Jazz Flat B string wouldn't go down into the hole. I kept the string longer than I normally would have, laid the string across the slot then wound it over itself a few times. It looked messy, but it held.

I was hoping for something that didn't involve taking a file to my relatively new bass

Try squishing the B a bit with vice grips so it's slightly oval. Then fit the narrow dimension into the slot.

Are you using the tapered B Labella?

In any event, I just strung my Corvette with Sadowsky .135T and found when I cut and then bend the right angle for the piece to put in the post, you need to be careful to make it a pretty perfect 90 degree, straight and flat and then I pinch the very end into the tip of the pliers and then twist clockwise with some pressure to smooth out the cut, wrapped end. Then it should go in.
