Smooth Strings

Some people like it rough... I don't. I tend to get a long with soft, smooth feeling strings, and the slippery the better. I can't play at all on these rougher feeling strings. I'm sure however there is a better string available for my needs, I do use a certain brand at the moment, but they go dead really quickly. I've thought about trying daddarios, because their guitar strings are great, the wounds are very smooth to play, and last a decent length of time, but whether the same is true for their bass strings I don't know. I thought I would ask here anyway, since experimenting with bass strings costs a fortune. I want to try and get it right if I can.

Are you talking about flatwounds? Because IME flats are the least slippery string out there because there's more surface area. Rounds are more slippery (though you may call them rough) .. have you tried coated rounds like Elixers? They feel the most slippery to me.

I agree with tplyons. While you would think the opposite flats do grab at you fingers. They do seem to feel smoother as they break in IMO. Groundwound strings are similar but also seem to feel smoother with more use. Could all be in my head. I like the DR Sunbeams. Nickel plated steel roundwounds and compression wound. Very smooth for rounds and lower tension unlike many flats(there are exceptions for flats as the already mentioned TI Jazz Flats which are awesome strings too!) You may have to spend a few bucks to find your "holy grail" string. I can think of nothing more I like spending my $ on than bass gear!

I use Ken Smith "compressors" and like them a lot. They behave like a roundwound but are noticeably smoother to the fingers.

I use D'addario EXL 165's with a 130 B string. Smoothest strings I've ever played...
