I've been playing Slowwounds for several years but since they have decided to discontinue those, I thought I'd try another nickel string to replace them. First thing I noticed was that these seem less bright right out of the box with less low treble to mid treble. Not a bad thing, just a different sort of sound. They do seem smoother sounding also. I'm not sure of exact tension but on my 34" Smith, they are a bit softer than the SWs. So far I like them. I'll have to see how the wear though.

the slowounds are hex-core strings while the sunbeams are round-core strings, it's a total different sound although they are both nickel plated.

check out the latest strings article on Bassplayer magazine...one guy from DR talks about the difference.
