So, I ordered my supercheap Sam Ash (guitar research) strings yesterday...

Sign in to disble this ad
and they got here today.

20 sets of the 41 I ordered ("half" are going to my buddy's address).

Total cost after shipping for all 41 sets: ~$38.

Ridiculous. These are the strings here:

http://www.samash.com/webapp/wcs/sto...tegorySA-10001

I took a picture, but it's too large for my phone to email....

Anyway, you should probably buy these.

If they sound like crap, that's $38 wasted

Backups are backups.

40 sets of strings for the price of ONE set of DR's? I'll take it.

When I realized that 4 sets were CHEAPER than the two I had originally planned on buying, it just snowballed.

this is going to be a big ordeal.
its ironic the strings brand is "guitar research".
these are going to be a cheap experiment.
im excited now.

Hey! I have one of their gig bags. Good bag actually, if the strings are of the same quality, that may be worth it.

I ended up buying 60 sets because they sound and feel great to me. For comparison my favorite strings are D'Addario Chromes ECB84 (for recording), Rotosound RS66LDN (nickel) and Hartke HSB-445 (hex core nickel) and I'm happy to have found these Guitar Research strings even if they had a $20-$30 price tag.

I used to buy ALICE el-cheapo no-name strings, and never cared that they were 2-3 bucks a pack, if they lasted a month that was good enough for me. I have a lot of basses, and to drop 30.00-50.00 strings on each of them would be crazy, so I don't. only my main 2 players gets the good stuff, but it is always nice to have new shiny strings even on a "wall hanger".

If these strings are up to the same quality as the ALICE strings, I'll be happy, and order more sets ( I got 12 sets ) for when the remaining Alice strings are gone.

for what it is worth, 11 bucks for a dozen sets is good, and if they suck and sound horrible, or rust up after 3 days, --eh who cares about the 11 bucks I just threw away ( won't be the most expensive thing I wasted money on )
