I jumped into the GHS pool, that's what I did!

I order a set of Brite Flats and a set of Pressure wounds. Both ML. The pressure wounds will go on the new project and the brites will go on my Squier CV.

So when they get here and I get them strung on, we'll see.....

I just put a set of Brite Flats on my Sadowsky jazz. I used to use these a long time ago and haven't had any in a few years. Wow, talk about low end thump!

I've never tried GHS stings, be interesting to hear what you have to say about them.

Me too!

But for anyone who follows my reviews, I am reminded of a quote by Obi Wan Kenobi -
"Who's the bigger fool? The fool himself, or the one that follows him?"

Seriously though, I have become, once again, a D'Addario fan. I used them when I used to play bass back in the 80's too. But so many good reviews of the GHS strings, who knows?

And to tell the truth, if webstrings made a set of Detroit Flats in 45 -100 it would be all over for D'Addario! I love the set on my Ash Jazz, and especially for the price! But they are 45 -105 and a wee bit thick for my tastes.

EDIT: Holy Crap! I went to the webstrings site, and check this out!
http://www.webstrings.com/flatwound_bass_strings.html
Thye are offering a set of 40 -95! They are out of them at the moment but if I don't like the GHS flats, I will try these next! (if they are in stock that is)

No matter how many times I try Brite Flats, I can never seem to get a good sound out of then. Fingers tone was meh, and slapping was next to impossible. Guess there just not my thing, Ive heard plenty of people say good things about them.

Flats (or halfrounds) aren't really designed for slapping, IMO.

Yeah I guess so, I just figured they might actually have a little of the inherent brighness of rounds while still keeping the smooth feel of flats.

That sounds more like nickel roundwounds to me. Or Elixirs, which sound like dull nickels.

Yep, just recently switched to nickel rounds and it was exactly what I was looking for.

First report.....

HOLY CRAP!!!

I picked up the GHS strings today from the music shop and I have the Brites on my CV. Holy Crap! Have I said, Holy Crap!??

Now I don't know if it is purely the strings or a combination of the strings and the DiMarzio Ultra JAzz pups, but Holy Crap!

Grindy, ballsy but with a great mid presence! And the strings feel great even new! I have only had them on the bass for an hour so time will tell how they wear in but I am, so far, really pleased.

I did get the ML gauge which is something like 52 - 102 sp they are a little beefier string than I normally play, but they just feel so good!

I also looked at the pressure wounds and they feel better than the D'Addario half rounds feel when they are new. But for a round wound they are unbelievably smooth. But time will tell when I get them on a bass.

I am still a huge D'Addario fan but am pleased with the Brites so far, even though they cost about 10 bucks more a set. But I figure if I stay between GHS, D'Addario and webstrings, it's all good!

I wasn't nearly as pleased with the Brite Flats, the groundwound design, at least from GHS (I haven't tried any others) is just a lost cousin of the round or flat. It just sits in mediocrity in the middle IMO. They are what they were designed for though. GHS Precision Flatwound on the other hand are a real treat.
