Now my favs are:
For Rounds
Fodera 40-55-75-95
CircleK 37-53-70-94-124 balanced 5 string set
For Flats
TI Jazz 43-56-70-100
Tried many over the last months/years but these are the ones I have settled on.

I have also tried Rotosound 66's, DR Hi-Beams, SIT's. The Rotosounds are the only other ones I like, but tend to mellow out quicker than EB'S
Also, I only use rounds. Don't like the sound of flats, and the feel gives me the willys

Stringwise, after 26 years of trying a variety of strings, D'Addarios are my go-to's.

I prefer some tension on my flats, but not too much.

| | | | Whatever's cheap. I tried a bunch of different brands back in the day. Everything from the cryogenic frozen ones, the ones with the hex core, the Billy Sheehan Rotosounds, D'addarios, GHS Boomers, Ernie Ball.....they're all pretty much the same to me. Sound great for maybe a week then go dead. I just buy whatever's cheap that way it doesn't kill my wallet every time I need a new set. I stay broke enough as it is. |

I have tried a few others, but i now remain an Earnie Ball fan for life. i rock a Dean, Ibanez and soon to be delivered schecter, all 4 string, and all will have Earnie Ball Regular slinky 105-50. i use them for shows, recording, practice, and they last a long time, and are perfect for tunings like drop D or C( drop C in my case), and you can go lower if need be. the biggest reason you should also choose these strings, is for the fact, that just about anywhere you go, if you need them, they are there. you can even go to most Best Buys to find these strings. so, no matter where you are, they are available. between the name, availability, sound, and reliability, get Earnie Ball reg. slinky 105-15.
just remember, with different string size changing, you will need to adjust bridges, and sometimes trus rods, to make this sound be great and play right. alot of people change strings, and dont do this and switch back to original because of buzz, and other reasons and dont realize, these things have to be done. and you can do them yourself, work on a cheap bass or guitar first to get a feel- rec. |
