Which song? I listen to them and everything sounds like rounds to me. I love John Mauer's live tone in the beginning of "Don't Drag me Down". Again, to me it always sounds like a rounds with a pick.

On that song I suppose you could get that tone with flats. You could try flats like Chromes, they're a little bit bright. They sound like dead rounds. I've heard recordings of people playing Rage songs on a P-bass with Chomes. With the tone turned up most people wouldn't know the difference.

The turbo ACs the bass player uses a ric with flatwound and pic. Along with a rat distortion pedal. super sweet tone.

I just made some recordings with my GSR 200 strung with Chromes using a pick and the P pickup. Pretty cool once you get the right tone. Not better or worse than rounds, just different. When jamming with loud guitars I usually prefer rounds so I can be heard better.

pm me your email, I can send it to you. Since I can't get back into my putfile account, I haven't been able to upload anything.

Yes, Paul Simonon had a tone to die for from his P bass with flats on all those great clash tunes.

I dont understand why alot of players think that flats cant cut thru the mix, just take a listen to the clash, old Joe Jackson, etc. its a more FILLING tone if you ask me.

I don't want my BASS to sound like a guitar,

That's interesting, I didn't know The Clash bassist actually played flats. The bass tone is mellow compared to newer punk but never really struck me as flat. It just fits the sound of The Clash. Anything can cut through in a proper mix, espcially a studio. The problem is jamming with loud guitarists and hard hitting drummers. All those ear bleeding high frequencies.

Why try to complete with all those high freqs, like guitars and cymbals when there is a huge gap,...

Thats where the chest fluttering thick bass comes in.
