I just replaced Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky's with GHS Precision flatwounds on My Squier Vintage Modified Precision Bass TB. I am blown away. No more mud, it's punchy and defined. I just laid down a hard rock track with it and IK Multimedia's Amplitube 3 Acoustic 360 with folded horn 18. For legal reasons I can't put the track on here. One warning on the strings: The ball ends are so big that they fit tightly in the string ferrules in the body. I'm glad I'm very happy with them. I'm not sure how I would get them out.

Very cool man! I'm actually doing this tonight on my mim fender jazz, super slinky swap out for the EB flatwounds, I play rock-metal and with a pick! I'm full with anticipation, man!!

So this may be a crazy question, but I tend to equate flatwounds = no brightness. Is this way offf the mark? Should I have flatwounds on my TB bass? I tried the groundwounds, but couldn't stand the texture, so never tried flats.

in general you can get clarity from flats but not the same sharp, high end marcus miller brightness you'd get from let's say rotosound swing 66's

of course you have to take a lot of other hodgepodge into consideration & thats not to say you cant make 66s sound like james jamerson

what im really trying to say is you can cut pizza with a butter knife or with a pizza slicer

An acoustic amp with a folded horn 18, hard to believe that any strings don't sound like mud...

Was a DR LoRiders user (and endorser) for a long while, but put Chromes on my Jazz bass and perfection was achieved.

I still have the DRs on my 5 string active bass, and I find perfection there, as well.

Try for yourself and find your perfection...

Not the actual amp. It was IK Multimedia's Acoustic 360 with folded horn 18. The volume was at 2'oclock the bass maxed. That was it. When I can I'll post some sounds.

Flats on precision is basically the Motown Sound in a nutshell!

I keep flats on my Wishbass fretless 6 and on an SX Jazz copy. The SX has custom wound Pyramid Gold flats.

For some reason which escapes me... Here on TB Pyramid flats are completely ignored!

Keep in mind this is not an obscure string- its pretty much on every Beatles track that Paul ever layed down with the Hofner!
