Some more string advice

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,

I don't know a lot about strings.

I am looking to replace the strings on my 5-string for the first time... Today I bought DR Black Beauties as back-up pack in case I'd break a string at a gig. I really didn't know what to choose, so it was really a random choice.

I haven't tried them on yet, but after a search, I don't read a lot of good things about them. I'm thinking of returning them to go with a safer, less experimental set.

Basically, I just need some advice on strings, good sounding and playing. I'd rather spend a bit more on good ones than get frustrated by cheaper ones.

Things to consider:
- bright but full sound, good definition
- I slap a lot, but finger more
- smoothe playability (finish important for this?)
- I play funk/fusion mostly. Sound-wise I like Richard Bona a lot, but also Pattitucci.

Should I just put on these Black Beauties and have them a go, or is there a set that I'm likely to dig, one that 'my kinda' players use a lot?

I'd wanna return them so I won't have to get another set if they're really crap.

Hope you can help! Thanks!

If you like Bona try some DR Sunbeams, that's what he uses and they're very smooth to the touch.
