Im new here so hi everyone. I am geting some new strings for my p bass but i dont know what to get. I am looking for a heavy rock/punk sound. Im getting some Seymour Duncan quarter pounders for my bass soon if that helps. I did search but could not find my answer. could someone point out a good brand and what gage to use, thanks.

Keep it simple. GHS bass boomers or D'Addario XLs, light or medium gauge.

In the end, you'll have to try different sets to find what's right for you.

Try DR strings, I'm using "DR Fat Beams" I have tried GHS, Rotosound, Dean Markley, and Fender.

Since you're new to this i.e. bass it's going to be trial and error or more correctly Hit and miss when it comes to strings. GHS Boomers would be a good choice as would be S.I.T. Rock Brights, D'Addario XL's or DR HiBeams, etc. For the style of music you play either of these would work well.

Go to the Lakland web site. They have a section that will show you how different strings sound (rock sound fingerstyle with flats, rock sound pick style with rounds etc....) I think they are played on a J bass, but you'll get the idea.
