Source for custom flats?

Sign in to disble this ad
I love Circle-K strings because I can order the exact gauge and tension I want....just fantastic.... but they only make roundwound strings. I've tried most every flatwound string and love TI Jazz Flats... but wish I had options regarding tension and gauge.

So, is there a source for the "Circle-K" of flatwound strings?

This is gonna depend on what tuning you like, and I'm sure some experience here.
EADG?
What are you looking for?

I'm not sure why it matters what tuning I'm looking for.

I'm looking for what I was looking for in my original post... a source for flatwound strings for 4-string bass, where I can spec the gauge/tension I want... similar to what's offered by Circle K Strings.

What sources do you have?

Pyramid will do custom sets from a selection of many gauges which is printed on the package of Pyramid Gold Flats. But you need deep pockets. I once priced them and they were more than $75 a set and you had to get two.

Octave 4 Plus make subcontra flats of .160 .170 .180 and apparently 'Flat wound versions of the bass strings and bass string sets coming soon.' Fully custom strings.

Also surely you could choose from any manufacturers range of single strings? For example choosing D'Addario Chromes using the D'Addario tension chart pdf.

You don't have to order two sets, and it's not that expensive. You can order your "custom set" from here:

http://www.saitenmarkt.com/lshop,sho...0.020.130,.htm

A set will cost +/- $50 plus shipping.

You can always give a call to the GHS Custom Shop. Give them your gauges, and they can tell you if it's available and/or possible. Can't hurt.

Well, after contacting several small "boutique" string shops, pretty much all of them said they had flat wound strings on the drawing boards. But I did not find any that had a similar ordering process/selection offered by Circle K. I know I keep referencing that company, but what they have in round wound strings was what I was looking for in flat wound strings. So, I'm staying with my TI Flats.
