Spector Euro 5LX with Flatwounds...Any advie?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got my Spector setup with new Ernie Ball Slinky's. I found the roundwounds plus Spector is a little too bright for my liking, even with the treble rolled back on the bass and the amp. I was thinking about trying D'addario Chromes. Anyone use the Chromes on a Spector? I play fingerstyle if that helps. Any input helps.

Thanks

I dont play my Spectors with anything except Chromes. They will take out that annoying high bite and smooth everything right out. I almost got rid of my first Euro because of the tone youre describing. Someone here on TB suggested I try flats and Ive been sold on 'em ever since. One word of advise though, keep your steel or nickel B string and just buy the flat 4 string set. The flat B string is a dead thump at best. If you keep your B steel, youll keep that great B tone Spectors are famous for and just smooth out the other strings. Very little tonal transitions between the B and E as well. Saves $$$ too.
