| spector performer re-string

hey i just bought a spector performer and im getting it set up. i tune to d standard and the strings it came with flop and are buzzing. i know part of that is that the bass is not set up yet but wondering if i should get a larger gauge string?? maybe a short scale?? what are your opinions?
