Spector rebop dlx4 FM or Stingray?

Sign in to disble this ad
Have my mind set on a stingray once I raised enough cash, but im in a delimma now that ive tried a spector dlx4 fm.

I was quite skeptical about it because it was loaded with EMG hz pickups. From my experience, talkbass peeps dont like EMGs too much. But I thought why not just plug it in and see? ( this was my first time playing an EMG'd bass).

And Holycrap. The sound was amazing. I brought my jazz bass for comparison purposes and the spector just pwned the jazz. However, do take note that my jazz had dead marcus miller DR strings strung while the spector had fresh rounds.

But from my memory, my jazz didnt sound close even with fresh rounds strung. My main concern if i bought the spector is the fact that im afraid it might not cut through in a rock band context.

As we all know, its the mids that help the bass cut through but the spector only has onboard eq which can ONLY boost the highs and lows. And also, I dont change strings too often and ive heard stories about EMG pickups sounding bad w dead strings.

I want an aggressive bass that can hold its own in a rock mix. Which should I get?
