| I had my SR5 strung up with Chromes for quite some time. With the active EQ and the potential brightness of the Chromes I was able to get almost anything from a flat out "THUD" to almost a twang.
I preferred the sound that you're going for, but having the flexibility to go from that to a "clanky", punchy or "midrangy" sound with the simple turn of a knob or two is a nice option to have with one bass. I never took advantage of it, mostly because the music I'm currently playing doesn't call for much variation in my sound, and even when it does I simply change the position of my right hand which gives me all of the variation I need.
I miss the Chromes, they were my favorites. Unfortunately they don't make them nearly heavy enough for me. Even when I get my new bass from Knuckle Guitar Works, which will be a 39.5" scale length, the Chromes will be heavy enough, but not long enough. |
