I couldn't really find anything in a search, so here's my query:
Are there any stainless steel ground/pressure/half-round strings out there other than the Rotosound RS55's? I love the feel of those kinds of strings (i.e. I'm a big fan of SIT Silencers) but most of those are nickel and I want that more steely tone, so I'm curious if there are other steel half-round offerings other than the Rotos, which as a brand have been hit or miss with me.
Please and thank you.

The basses sing beautifully. I can't see whather or not they are steel but have a look. They are in the online shop. http://www.status-graphite.com/statu...mes/frame1.htm |

MM | DRs are compression wound? I didn't know that. I thought they were regular roundwounds. I've tried the Lo Rider nickels and though I wasn't initially sold on those, when I recorded with my old band (I recorded my bass direct) the tone was pretty nice. (This was when my 'wick still had MECs
Everyone and their dog does say that Warwick + Duncans + Hi-Beams are a winning combo (my Warwick has Duncans).
emblymouse, I like Smith strings. I've used Burners on an old bass and loved them. The Custom Balanced ones are good too. I wasn't a big fan of the Compressors. Never tried Slicks, but the Smith website says the slicks are nickel.
Man, if SIT made a stainless steel Silencer, I'd be all over that like hot fudge and caramel on a sundae.

Smith Compressors, Smith Slicks, GHS Pressurewounds are nickels according to the respective websites. I'm wondering if there are half/ground/pressure that are pure stainless steel. In this realm of half/ground/pressure wound strings, are the Rotosound RS55's the only one that are stainless steel and not nickel/nickel plated? Someone said that Hi-Beams are groundwound, which is interesting.
I just feel like in the myriad of options as far as strings go, this particular niche is all but absent.

Most 'Nickel' strings are actually "NICKEL PLATED STEEL" (NPS). These are two completely different alloys. They both have 'Nickel' in them but neither are 'Pure Nickel'. Pure Nickel is used on occasion by some companies but not that popular. If it was a better choice, I guess it would replace the NPS (Nickel Plated Steel). |
