Which type I choose depends on a number of factors, the biggest of which are the tone I'm going for, and which bass I'm stringing. Right now I have a couple basses strung with steels, and a couple strung with nickels.
Nickels are usually smoother, but feel doesn't matter to me. |

I hear that the Maxima Golds are the best of both worlds and I will be getting a set of those next.

| | | | I voted nickels because i´m not fond of the trebly tone of Steels, besides...Nickel goes easier on the frets...i might be a cheap bastard after all. |

Usually the most of the time I play nickel. Maybe 60:40 nickel to steel

(I didn't vote because I like both. Carrots should always be an option!!!)
