I didn't vote. I like both. Which type I choose depends on a number of factors, the biggest of which are the tone I'm going for, and which bass I'm stringing. Right now I have a couple basses strung with steels, and a couple strung with nickels.

Nickels are usually smoother, but feel doesn't matter to me.

I use nickels (TI Superalloys). Stainless steel strings are too bright for me.

I voted steel since I am strung with steel on all of my basses.

I hear that the Maxima Golds are the best of both worlds and I will be getting a set of those next.

I voted nickels because i´m not fond of the trebly tone of Steels, besides...Nickel goes easier on the frets...i might be a cheap bastard after all.

It depends on your preference and body chemistry. Neither is 'better' than the other.

After playing stainless for 28 years, I have switched to nickels. For my current band nickels work better. I find I can dig in more, they tend to compress.

Tone, feel and less wear on fingers and hardware/frets makes Nickel's my choice hands down.

Currently optima gold.
Usually the most of the time I play nickel. Maybe 60:40 nickel to steel

+1. I typically use steels, but it's all about what tone you're looking for and the music being played.

Been using SS for a while now, but nickel is great on basses that have a lot of zing. It depends on the player, the bass, and what kind of tone you're after.

(I didn't vote because I like both. Carrots should always be an option!!!)

I used SS for almost 20 years but I have been using nickels for the past year and I really love them. I don't think I'll go back to steels.
