I wanted to try a set of steel strings, and see DR high beams are recommended as are various Rotosounds. Could someone make a good recommedation ? And Thank you.

I am not currently a steel strings user, but when I did I found nothing better than D'Addario Pro Steels.

seriously consider trying them. only $13.44 with free shipping from music123.com and they sound INCREDIBLE!

it's Will Lee's signature model.

re: DR steels

DR Hi Beams have a round core which means they're a LOT more "rubber band-y" than a hex core string. This usually means more fret buzz with a lower action. Try DR Lo Riders for steel without buzz.

Nothing beats the sound of new/dead Rotosound 66's or Dean Markley Blue Steels IMO

DR Hi Beams, Sadowsky Blue label, D'Addario Pro Steels and Elites are all good ime. Dean Markley Blue Steels sound good, but are very rough to the feel imo. Besides, the guages are weird.

I just got a set of sit strings. There called power steels and I like them a lot better then the dr high beams I used to use. I highly recommend them there only 20 bucks too not 30 like dr high beams

I still consider DR Hi-Beams the best strings I've ever played.

I really like the Rotosound Swing 66s, but I find there's a very small window of time where I like them (the sound I like doesn't last long).

My preference for steel strings are DRs, either High Beams or Lo-Riders depending on the feel your going for. I find out of all the strings I've used they last the longest and have a good consistent tone. Feel wise I think the DRs have the least 'cheese grater' feel.

I've use the D'Addarios, personally I found them a bit harsh and bright for my tastes.

I used to use Blue Steels exclusively for the longest time, but I had some troubles with consistency and breaking strings for a bit. I've since not used them.

Dunlop's steel strings are supposed to be pretty good too, but I haven't tried them.

I have tried alot of brands. Always go back to Rotosounds, Blue Steels are good as well, I buy the Dean Markley Skull Busters, same strings as Blue steels slightly different gauge & can be found for a bit cheaper. I soak my strings with denatured alcohol when they get dead & get another 2 or 3 months use that way.
