Steinberger Synapse Strings

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got my 5 String Synapse fretless, and have already run into the string issue. I had convinced myself that since it has the single ball headstock (allows you to use regular strings, theoretically) I would dodge the problem.

However, I find that it's a very very fine line as to which strings will fit through the provided holes... so:

Does anyone have experience with brands that work well on the Synapse? Or even better, is there a method I could use to seperate those that will fit from those that won't?

My hopes are to find a tapewound option, since flats are a tad TOO dead sounding for my preferences, but I hesitate to go straight roundwound.

I don't even think I know how to answer that... the flats that are on it now look as if they could be GHS (but they are double ball, and I can't prove such an animal exists). I say that because the silk is red on both ends (boomers at least USED to be red silked).

I have almost no basis for comparison as far as name brands, and I'm a relative novice to the fretless. As a hint at how I tend on the brightness scale though, my main bass is a Modulus VJ with DR LoRiders.
