Sticky strings

My strings are dirty and sticky for some reason. Any tips to effectively clean the string? Thanks in advance!

Wipe them down with a cloth with some rubbing alcohol on it.

or

Take them off, boil them in vinegar and water for about 15 mins.

Put denatured alcohol on a rag and wipe them down. When the strings go dead, soak them in denatured alcohol for 24-48 hours and it will rejuvenate them.
