Sting Strings?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got a Sting P bass and want to know what strings everyne suggests. I am looking for that Vintage sound. I am also planning to string through the body and am thinking about flats. Can that be done? Hey thanks in advance guys. Oh I play Country, Blues, and Rock.

La Bella tells users not to go string through; not sure if other makers do the same. Many have strung their Sting or '51 basses through body with no problems.

Use the search function; this has been discussed several times.

Make sure to get extra long strings; those reissue ferrules eat strings up. I have used TI (barely long enough for the G string, but they worked), Fender, and D'Addario flats on my '51. You will get a vintage sound.

These basses are great with rounds as well. I have though about buying two--one with flats, one with rounds.

They come from Fender strung with mystery stainless rounds.

I vote for the Thomastic flats also. They are an amazing string and well worth the higher price. Long life too. I had a set on my old P bass for over 8 years and just changed them a few weeks ago. i use them on all my basses. Great feel to play on too. They warm up nicely after a few hours of playing and stay that way for a very long time. I've put them on a Danelectro DC, an Ibanez Artcore, an Ibanez SRX 300, a Fender P and a Carvin Bolt 4. Each bass sounded better but still retained their basic character.

Right now mine has MF strings on it. They are cheap and sound OK but not like I would like them to. I got the bass used so I never got the chance to play the manufacturer strings on it. I was thinking that TI FLAT Jazz might be a good choice. Would you all agree??

I searched and therre are a lot of people that spell String Sting.

I use Fender 9050ML's on my basses that I string with flats and am pleased with them. Nice vintage tone and not too bright after they become broken in.

I have used the Fenders and D'Addario Chrome Flats and VASTLY prefer the Fenders. I also like DR Hi Beam rounds on it also.

I have a Sting Precision myself, and was thinking about putting on a set of GHS Precision flats myself. The TIs would also be a possibility. I have never had a set of flats on it before, but I would imagine it would sound really good. I am not really enamoured of the LowRiders that sit on it now.
