Which strings do you like best on your Stingray 5. I've had Elixir stings on mine for a good while and I like them, but I'm curious which strings you've settled on for yours. Let me know... |

It's not a dumb question, is it? Certain strings sound better on certain basses, do they not? |

DR Low riders
Laballa deep talking flats
D'Adarrio Nickles
But I ultimatley came back to Ernie ball Super slinky's.
They don't last as long as the other strings as they die out rather quickly, but to my ears they sound the best. They sound somehow bring out the aggrisive musicman tone. |

I really didnt like the Slinky's because the LowB just felt like a rubber band. |

I agree that they don't last as long, but they give me the best balance between slap and fingerstyle, plus they're relatively cheap and easy to find if you're out on the road and need a set. |

I would like to try some DRs on it though. I have not used DRs in many years. (before I had my Ray5)

I should try them again. I tried the Slinkys, too, and they died quick. They did sound good, though. I don't care for High Beams because I don't like how they grab my fingers. I might try nickel low riders, though.
BAH! I don't know... |

I love my SR5 aggressive tone but am considering softening the clank a bit. |

The last 4 times I've put regular slinkys, and they always sound great. But I'm becoming curious to other strings.

I've tried other brands, and while they don't sound bad, I could just never get "that" tone and it had me questioning whether to keep the SR5 which I love to play. The Slinkys are "that" tone for me.
I know they don't last as long as some other brands, but I've learned to accept that, take care of them the best I can and just buy a new set when it's ready. At least they're not too expensive.

I've kept the original Slinky's on my current Stingray just to give them a try but for Christmas I got a set of Lo Riders that will replace them as soon as I get around to it.
I've been curious about how flats would sound on the Stingray, however, I don't see myself actually doing that right now. With the rounds on the Stingray and flats on my Precision V I can get just about any kind of tone I need for what I'm playing, so even though I'm tempted to try flats I think the rounds will stay on the Stingray.
